There are many identified cases of Legionnaires’ disease every year. It is contracted by inhaling small droplets of water suspended in air that are contaminated with the Legionella bacterium.

Legionella bacteria occur naturally in surface water or soils and can develop within cooling towers, hot and cold distribution systems, water plant, humidifiers and air washers where it is assisted by suitable nutrients in dirt, sludge and scale as well as conditions of poor water flow, stagnation or where dead legs occur in water systems.
